Hi, I’m Nikole Boston, LCSW, QCSW

The owner and clinician at The Mindful Oasis Co.

I began my journey in social work to help people, as cliché as this may sound. I was the person that friends in school could talk to. I was a better listener and gave the advice. I had also been through a lot and wanted to find a way to use my experiences to help others not go through the same things. Well, unfortunately, that’s not quite how therapy works. Or life for that matter. But I can still use my experiences and education to help.

Just like so many therapists, I have dealt with similar struggles that our clients experience. I have had to walk my own path. Find my own support. And find the ways to get where I am today. I’m not perfect, things still come up for me, but I have much better ways to manage life and all that it entails. I want that for you, too.

On top of the experience, I do have the training to go along with it. I’ll tell you more about that. But I want you to know the other parts of being a therapist for me as well. At first, I thought being a therapist was all about which training I took. Which theory or modality I used in my work with you. Following a certain script or just being a certain way. You know the stereotypical therapist that talks really soft, doesn’t break eye-contact, asks you about your feelings, while you are laying on the couch.

I don’t know about you but that doesn’t sound like real life to me. I didn’t want to be that. So I found a way to be me and help you. Sounds simple now. But what this means is that I get to be genuine.

We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, and yes sometimes I will ask you about your feelings. Not because I have to but because I care and they are actually important.

I’m warm but also straight-forward and ask the tough questions. I explain things and make sure you understand them. I’m approachable and make sure that you feel safe and comfortable to be open in therapy and get the support that you need.

Here’s the fun stuff about me.

I enjoy going camping in my motorhome with my family and pets. Traveling around the country and world to explore new places and cultures is the way I prefer to vacation.

I’m a fur mom to two senior dogs and two littermate cats. They are all, what I consider the perfect type of breed, rescued. They also have a variety of medical issues that keep me on my toes and they each get special attention.

I spend my down time crocheting and binge-watching television shows when I get the chance. I am enjoying getting to know my new home and community by exploring local places and events on my days off.

Work Journey that led to this point.

I began my career working in family-based mental health providing therapy to children and their families. My career transitioned a few more times, and I began working in school based social work with children with special needs. While it seemed like my work was focused on children at first, I began to realize that I was spending more time with the caregivers, and they were the ones that needed more support. I am passionate about helping parents to gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence that they need to be the best parents they can and work with the school systems at times. As an adult, we often get into situations and have experiences that we don’t expect. Sometimes our friends and family don’t understand or know how to help us in the best way possible. That’s where my experience, knowledge, and passion come in to help you find your way. This is not just a job for me but also a passion and lifestyle. I have always helped others and want to continue to do that for you.

Finally, those qualifications and trainings.

All of that passion and personality can only get me so far so here is the nitty gritty of my qualifications to help you feel more confident about what I am offering you. I graduated from Millersville University with a master’s degree in social work and after 4 years of clinical experience I received my clinical license from the state of PA. While working in Maryland for several years, I also received my clinical license in Maryland, along with being an approved supervisor in Maryland. I have continued training and specializing in the areas that are most important to the clients I serve. I am currently certified in Mindfulness Informed Therapy and I am a Qualified Clinical Social Worker through NASW. I also incorporate additional training and experience in CBT, structural family therapy, behavior modification, and crisis management.
